My mind was swirling. Where would I start? Where should I start? I was so overwhelmed by all the thoughts in my mind that I couldn’t focus on any one thing. I had so many different responsibilities to balance. How would I focus enough on one that I could accomplish anything?
Then I remembered that my coaching session was the next day. What a relief! I would just talk to my coach about how I needed to find some balance in my life.
That’s exactly what I did. I told my coach how I felt like I was in a fog. She began asking questions to prompt me to dig deeper. The questions helped me consider how my responsibilities were in line with my priorities. I began to realize that a couple of projects I was trying to work on were not helping me accomplish my vision for my life.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord,
“plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
– Jeremiah 29:11
When I started coaching, I knew that God had a plan for my life that I wasn’t living out. My coach walked me through writing out the vision based on my values. My vision resonated deep within me. I knew it was what God had purposed for me.
My coach reminded me to consider my vision. How did my responsibilities help me to live the life to which God had called me? Wow… That’s all it took. I knew what to do next. I knew what I needed to let go so that I could achieve a greater balance in my life.
That wasn’t the first time. And, it won’t be the last time that I had such an aha! in my coaching sessions. Coaching has changed my life. You see, I believe that God uses my personal coaching sessions to speak to me. My coach doesn’t tell me what to do. The Holy Spirit does. My coach simply uses questions to draw out of my heart the things that are inside that sometimes I know are there and sometimes I have forgotten.
Have you ever had an experience like that? Maybe it was with a good friend. Maybe it was with your pastor. If not, maybe you should try coaching.
“The purpose in a man’s heart is like deep water,
but a man of understanding will draw it out.”
– Proverbs 20:5

Making changes and fulfilling dreams takes time. Life coaching can change your life too.
